Unlock PDF
Remove editing, printing, and copying restrictions from PDF files
Important - please read before using
This tool is intended for use on PDFs you own or have permission to modify - for example, a document you created and locked yourself, or one where the owner has given you permission to edit.
Do not use this tool to remove restrictions from documents you do not own. Bypassing permissions on third-party PDFs may violate copyright, licensing agreements, or applicable law. By using this tool you confirm the file is yours or you have permission to modify it.
What this tool does:
Removes editing, printing, and copying restrictions from PDFs that use owner-level protection - for example, a PDF that opens fine but won't let you copy text or print.
What this tool does NOT do:
It cannot open or unlock PDFs that require a password to open. If you see a password prompt when opening your PDF in a viewer, this tool will not work.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to know the password?
Yes. You must enter the current password to unlock the file. This ensures the tool can only be used on PDFs you legitimately own or have the right to access.
Is removing a PDF password legal?
Removing a password from a PDF you own is entirely legitimate — for example, unlocking your own archived document or one you protected yourself. Bypassing protection on content you do not own may violate copyright law.
What's the difference between user and owner passwords?
A user password prevents opening the file at all. An owner password restricts editing, printing, or copying but allows the file to be opened freely. This tool handles both types.
Are my files private?
Yes. Unlocking happens entirely in your browser using pdf-lib. Your PDF never leaves your device.
Can I re-protect the file after unlocking?
Yes. After downloading the unlocked file, use Protect PDF to add a new password.
