How to convert PDF to Word
Upload your PDF
Drop your PDF into the box above or click to browse. No sign-up required.
Convert
Click Convert. Your PDF is sent securely to our conversion server, where LibreOffice converts it to .docx format.
Download and edit
Your .docx file downloads automatically. Open it in Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice to start editing.
Accurate PDF-to-Word conversion requires LibreOffice, a professional document conversion engine that cannot run inside a web browser. For this tool, your file is sent over HTTPS to a secure server hosted on Fly.io. LibreOffice converts it, the .docx file is returned to your browser, and both the input and output are deleted immediately. Nothing is stored after conversion.
If you prefer a fully browser-based option for extracting text only, try PDF to Text. For scanned PDFs, OCR PDF can extract the text layer first.
Frequently asked questions
Will the formatting be preserved?
Most formatting is preserved — paragraphs, headings, tables, and embedded images. Complex layouts with precise multi-column positioning may need minor adjustments in Word after conversion.
What about scanned PDFs?
Scanned PDFs contain images, not text. This tool works best with digitally created PDFs. For scanned documents, try OCR PDF first to extract the text layer.
Is my file private?
Yes. Your file is sent over HTTPS to a secure server, converted, returned to you, and immediately deleted. No file names, contents, or metadata are logged or retained.
Is there a file size limit?
Recommended limit is 50 MB. Very large PDFs may take longer to process and download.
Can I convert Word back to PDF?
Yes. Use Word to PDF to convert .docx files back to PDF format with formatting preserved.
